Take Measurements of Your Spaces

Benefits

Measurement mode offers lots of benefits, including:

  • Mobile and tablet support.
  • Intelligent snapping to corners and edges, and to existing measurements.
  • Intelligent axis snapping to vertical and horizontal axes.
  • A scope you can use for improved measurement accuracy.
  • The capability to support thousands of measurements.
  • Easy creation of continuous measurements and measurements with multiple connected lines.
  • Automatic selection of measurement units: feet and inches or meters. Users can also override this selection.

Measuring in Showcase Mode

Square Foot Imaging clients can take measurements in Showcase mode. This means that clients can use Measurement Mode to open any space in Showcase and measure any aspect of their space, on any device. Note that clients can't save these measurements. They're meant to act as a real-time tool. If a client wants to save their measurements, they can take a screenshot of the measurements for later use.

Measurement Mode Settings

To access Measurement Mode Settings in Showcase Mode, first click the Measurement Mode (ruler) icon in the lower-left of the space. Then, click the Settings (gear) icon in the upper-right.

You can adjust the following settings:

  • Snapping:
    • Toggle the switch to the right to turn snapping on. This is the default setting. When snapping is on, your measurements are snapped to the nearest corner or edge. You can also use the Shift key to automatically snap your line to the nearest axis, or use the Alt key to remove all snapping.
    • Toggle the switch to the left to turn snapping off. This lets you place your lines anywhere, manually.
  • Continuous Lines:
    • Toggle the switch to the right to turn on continuous lines. This is the default setting. This lets you continuously measure an object with more than one edge or corner, like a table.
    • Toggle the switch to the left to turn this feature off.
  • Units:
    • Select U.S. (Imperial) to use feet and inches.
    • Select Metric to use meters and centimeters.

Use Measurement Mode in Showcase on a Desktop

Clients can take their measurements by following these steps. For information about the settings that control this functionality, refer to the Account Settings topic above.

  1. Open a space in Showcase.
  2. Click the Measurement Mode (ruler) icon in the lower-left of the screen.
  3.  Click the + icon in the middle of the screen. This opens the measurement cursor, which features a scope that allows you to take detailed measurements with precise zooming.
  4. Double-click where you want to start your measurement. This places your first measurement marker.
  5. Drag the line vertically or horizontally along the edge or corner you want to measure. Optionally, use the scope to more precisely line up your line with the edge or corner of the object.
  6.  To quickly measure from the floor to the ceiling, double-click either the floor or the ceiling to create a line
  7. Click again to end your measurement line.
  8. From here, you can continue measuring, or to stop your current measurement line, click the checkmark icon or press Escape. Your finished measurements appear appended to the object.
  9. To remove a measurement, click the trash can.
